High-Speed Chase Ends In Police Shooting Of Former Deputy

Sacramento County, California β On December 2, 2025, early in the morning, a mother became alarmed ...after checking live security camera footage inside her Elk Grove home while she was at work. On the video, she saw her former husband, 40-year-old Marvin Morales, violently attacking their 11-year-old son. After watching the assault escalate and then seeing her child lying motionless, she immediately called 911 to report what she believed was a life-threatening emergency involving her children. Police officers rushed to the home and discovered the 11-year-old suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite emergency medical efforts, the boy later died at the hospital. A younger sibling who was also inside the home was found unharmed. Morales had already fled the scene before officers arrived, but investigators discovered signs that firearms had been removed from a gun safe in the house.
Because Morales was a former Sacramento County sheriffβs deputy with law enforcement and military training, authorities quickly issued alerts to surrounding agencies, warning that he could be armed and dangerous. Law enforcement agencies soon located the suspect driving south on Interstate 5, where a pursuit ensued at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour through heavy traffic and limited visibility. The chase ended when the vehicle lost control after spike strips were deployed, launching off the roadway and crashing down an embankment. Body-worn camera footage shows officers surrounding the wrecked SUV and repeatedly ordering the driver to surrender. Authorities say he continued reaching into the vehicle and retrieved what officers believed was a long gun, prompting multiple deputies to open fire. The former deputy was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly afterward. No officers were injured.
Morales joined the force in 2017 and was on duty until he was fired for misconduct in February 2024. His downfall came after he was found overdosing on fentanyl inside the police station in October 2023 after taking the drugs from someone he stopped for questioning. Florida Man Attempts Escape After Routine Police Stop

North Miami Beach, Florida β On September 17, 2025, North Miami Beach Police Officers pulled over ...a white Honda after noticing the vehicle had excessively dark window tint, a common equipment violation. When officers approached the car and made contact with the driver, 22-year-old Jonathan Rivas, they reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, which raised their suspicions and prompted further investigation. Officers asked Rivas to step out of the car while they checked the vehicle. During this time, he appeared visibly upset and anxious, at one point telling officers he was experiencing a panic attack. Although he briefly calmed down, Rivas largely refused to answer questions and remained silent for an extended period. As officers continued their investigation, the situation abruptly escalated when Rivas shoved an officer, jumped back into his car, speeding away through nearby streets. Investigators say the attempted escape ended minutes later after Rivas lost control of the vehicle and struck multiple cars, forcing him to abandon the Honda and run on foot. Officers caught up to him a short distance away and took him into custody following a brief struggle. Rivas was later transported for medical evaluation before being booked into jail. Prosecutors have filed multiple charges connected to the incident, ranging from fleeing police and reckless driving to battery on an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.

San Diego, California β On December 16, 2025, at about 4:00 p.m., San Diego Police Officer ...Kellan Taeatafa-De La Rosa and Officer #2 were attempting to make contact with a man on an e-bike in the 2900 block of balboa drive in Balboa Park. The man, 55-year-old Allen Baker (also known as Tracy Diggs), fled from the officers while riding the e-bike and then on foot. The pursuit ended when Baker turned toward officer Taeatafa-De La Rosa and fired a round from a handgun. Officer Taeatafa-De La Rosa, unharmed, responded by firing back, discharging five rounds at Baker, sending him crumpling to the ground. Additional officers arrived at the scene and Baker was taken into custody. Officers rendered medical aid until the arrival of San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel. Baker was transported to a Hospital, where he was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. After firing at officer Taeatafa-De La Rosa, Baker's handgun landed in the nearby brush. Baker has been criminally charged by the district attorney's office with Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer, Assault on a Peace Officer With a Semi-Automatic Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

During the interaction, investigators say the woman became aggressive and lashed out at an officer and used a fingernail file, prompting officers to use a Taser to subdue her. She was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation before being booked on assault complaints. Police have not disclosed whether the officer was injured, and the case is still under review.

Miami-Dade Sheriffβs Deputy Shoots Carjacking Suspect Armed With an AK-47

Miami-Dade, Florida β On November 3rd, 2025, just before 9 p.m., Miami-Dade Sheriff's dispatch notified deputies ...of a carjacking in the 27900 block of SW 127th Avenue near Homestead. A woman was sitting in her black Tahoe when three armed, masked suspects approached her vehicle. The victim ran to a nearby business, and the three carjackers fled the scene in her vehicle. Deputies from the South District Crime Suppression Team and the Special Enforcement Team located the stolen Tahoe near se 25 Avenue and se 28 Drive, a residential area in Homestead. When deputies closed in on the carjacked Tahoe, the three suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. During the foot pursuit, 18-year-old Stephan Jones pointed an assault rifle toward deputy #1, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
The deputy called for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel to be dispatched to the scene. Deputies provided Jones with medical aid, including the application of a tourniquet, until their arrival. Body-worn camera video shows Jones' assault rifle on the ground next to where he was apprehended. Jones was transported to a hospital in stable condition. The two remaining suspects, 18-year-old Tyquawn Davis and a 16-year-old juvenile, were arrested nearby. Jones's assault rifle and Davis's handgun were recovered near where they were detained. Stephan Jones was charged with the following: aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, improper exhibition of a firearm, resisting an officer without violence. Tyquawn Davis was charged with armed carjacking and resisting an officer without violence. The juvenile was charged with resisting an officer without violence. No deputies or uninvolved community members were injured during this incident.

Baltimore Cops Open Fire As Driver Tries To Flee

Baltimore, Maryland β On December 16, 2025, at approximately 7:57 p.m., Eastern District Detectives were monitoring ...CCTV cameras when they observed suspected narcotics activity in the area of North Charles Street and East 21st Street. Members of the Eastern District Action Team (DAT) were directed to the area to further investigate and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle believed to be involved in the activity. The vehicle fled from officers, and a pursuit ensued. A request was made for Foxtrot (BPDβs helicopter); however, it was not in service at the time. The vehicle entered the 500 block of West Lanvale Street and drove into a dead-end alley. Three officers exited their vehicle and approached on foot, issuing verbal commands for the occupants to show their hands. The vehicle suddenly reversed toward one officer and crashed into a fence. It then accelerated again towards the officer, at which point all three officers discharged their firearms. The passenger, 61-year-old Andrew Brown, fell out of the vehicle as it drifted in reverse. The driver, 37-year-old Devin Thomas, exited the vehicle and laid on the ground. Officers placed both males in handcuffs and rendered aid to Thomas, who had been struck by gunfire, until medics arrived on scene. Thomas was transported to an area hospital and has since been released. He was later arrested and charged with assault and dangerous weapon with intent to injure. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded the recovery of two firearms and narcotics.

Henderson, Nevada β On January 4, 2026, a man illegally entered a secured construction site during ...the morning hours. A remote security worker monitoring cameras noticed the suspect climbing over a fence and attempting to start a piece of heavy construction equipment. A security guard on site approached the man to question him and ask him to leave, but the situation quickly escalated. Police say the suspect became aggressive, threatened to kill the guard, and displayed a screwdriver as a weapon, prompting the guard and the remote security worker to call 911. Before officers could fully intervene, the suspect managed to start a large front loader and drove it through a perimeter fence, leaving the construction site and entering nearby streets.
When the first police officer arrived and attempted to stop him, the suspect ignored commands and instead drove directly at patrol vehicles and striking them. Officers fired their weapons as the suspect continued advancing, eventually ramming two police cars and becoming immobilized. Police then attempted to physically remove the suspect, leading to a struggle that sent two officers and the man falling several feet to the ground. The two officers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was also taken to the hospital with two gunshot wound. The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Juan Rincon Carreno, now faces multiple felony charges including attempted murder, resisting a public officer with a deadly weapon, vehicle theft, and property damage up to $5K. He was set to appear in court on Jan. 7, but according to court officials, the suspect is still recovering from his injuries in the hospital.

Gunfight Erupts After Suspect Opens Fire On Police Officers

Rochester, N.Y. β On December 19, 2025, around 10:15 p.m., a man called 911 to report ...his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend was trying to break into her home on Chili Avenue and might have a gun. Officer 1 and 2 approached 38-year-old Eric Davis, by the side of the house, at which time the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired at least six rounds, striking both Officers. Davis appears to have fled towards the back of the yards. During the subsequent chaos of gunfire, the 911 caller pulled out his legally registered handgun and fired six rounds in the direction of an Officer. Officer 1 fired three rounds and Officer 2 fired six rounds. The 911 caller was struck at least two times, including one round confirmed to have been from an Officerβs handgun.
While being rushed to the hospital, in the back of a Police car with severe injuries, Officer 2 was able to relay suspect information to responding Officers. Those Officers located the suspect, Davis, near the intersection of Arnett Blvd and Thurston Road. Officer 3 attempted to stop Davis who immediately fired at the Officer, striking him in the upper body. The injured Officer returned fire and a fourth Officer quickly arrived on scene and returned fire as well, shooting him dead. The fourth Officer returned fire from behind a tree, which was struck by Davisβ gunfire. In total, Davis fired at least eight rounds at the Officers on Thurston Road, near Arnett Blvd. Officer 3 returned fire with seven rounds and Officer 4 fired four rounds. The injured officers were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital. The first officer was released the next day but continues to receive medical treatment. The second officer remains hospitalized with serious injuries. The third officer was discharged Dec. 24 and is recovering at home. The 911 caller has also been released.

Officer Fires After Suspect Advances With Boxcutter

Queens, N.Y. β On Sunday, December 21, 2025, at approximately 12:29 a.m., Officer Pointdujour and her ...partner, Officer Amanda Delarosa, responded to a 911 call at a residential building in the vicinity of Central Avenue and Nameoke Street, for a dispute involving 29-year-old Chez Fray and another person. The 911 caller reported that Fray was acting violent, however denied that he possessed a weapon. Upon arrival, the officers met with the 911 caller and another civilian witness, who escorted them to the apartment where Fray was believed to have been located. When Officer Pointdujour and Officer Delarosa arrived at the apartment, they searched for Fray with the 911 caller and discovered that he was not inside. Fray then appeared in the hallway of the location and was in possession of a boxcutter in his right hand.
While the officers ordered Fray several times to drop his weapon, the 911 caller intervened, causing a physical dispute between Fray and the 911 caller. During the dispute, Fray maintained possession of the boxcutter. The officers ordered the 911 caller several times to move out of their way, however he refused to do so and began to physically grapple with Fray. After approximately 35 seconds of grappling, the 911 caller broke off from Fray and ran towards Officer Pointdujour and Officer Delarosa. As the 911 caller ran towards the officers, Fray followed him while in possession of the boxcutter. As Fray ran towards the 911 caller and the officers, Officer Delarosa deployed her Taser Conducted Electrical Weapon at him. Fray continued to move forward at which point, Officer Pointdujour discharged two rounds from her service firearm, striking Fray. Fray was taken into custody and transported via ambulance to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

Louisville, Kentucky β On December 18, 2025, at 11:17 a.m., LMPD officers in the first division ...were notified of a shot spotter alert indicating two rounds were fired in the air, followed by an additional eight rounds in the rear of 2327 West Chestnut Street. Officers arrived on scene about four minutes after being dispatched and found a man, later identified as 30-year-old Asa McNealy, in the alley who began to flee on foot. After a short foot pursuit, officers found McNealy in a backyard. The suspect was ordered by officers to not reach for anything and to put his hands in the air. McNealy told officers he had a gun and eventually reached for it in his waistband. One LMPD officer discharged his weapon, striking McNealy, who then fell to the ground. Officers continued to give verbal commands for McNealy to show his hands. Due to the lack of cover, officers were initially unable to approach McNealy to place him into custody and render aid. Eventually, officers used ballistic shields and approached the suspect. McNealy's handgun was removed from the immediate area and the suspect was placed in handcuffs and officers then began to render aid. McNealy was transported to UofL Hospital in downtown Louisville in critical condition, where he remains. McNealy was charged with wanton endangerment and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

St. Louis, Missouri β On Friday, November 21st, 2025, at approximately 12:41 a.m., St. Louis Airport ...Police Officers were conducting foot patrols in Terminal 1 when they encountered an adult male now identified as Darius Kennedy standing near a restroom entrance. Officers instructed Kennedy to leave the airport. However, Kennedy refused to comply and pulled a knife from the sleeve of his jacket. The officers issued multiple verbal commands to Kennedy, instructing him to drop the knife. Kennedy ignored those commands and moved toward officers. One officer deployed a taser, striking Kennedy, but was ineffective. Kennedy, who was still armed with a knife, turned and ran in the direction of another police officer. That officer fired a service weapon striking Kennedy. Following the shooting, the officers administered aid to Kennedy. However, he was pronounced deceased on scene. The investigation later determined Kennedy was 31 years old and was unhoused. Detectives recovered a knife attributed to Kennedy. In total, 4 shots were fired by law enforcement. No officers were physically injured in this incident.

Saint Paul, Minnesota β On December 21, 2025, at approximately 3 p.m. General Motors was electronically ...tracking a stolen Buick Envista and notified police the vehicle was in Saint Paul. Officers located the vehicle and began following it in a SPPD marked squad as it entered westbound I-94 from Highway 52. General Motors then remotely disabled the vehicle. The driver, identified by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension as 32-year-old Elliot Vaughn, of Minneapolis, and a female passenger exited the vehicle and ran. According to the BCA's preliminary investigation, Vaughn pulled out a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at Officers Foy and Treangen. Both officers fired their service weapons at Vaughn, striking him in the leg. Officers provided medical aid to Vaughn before he was transported to Regions Hospital and then booked into jail after he was medically cleared. The female passenger was located and taken into custody a short time later. No other injuries were reported. Vaughn has since been charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, and a single count of theft of a motor vehicle.
