Suspect Opens Fire on LAPD Cops After Crashing Stolen Pickup Truck

Los Angeles, California β On June 9, 2026, at around 1:47 pm., Los Angeles Police Officers ...from the Newton Patrol Division observed a gray pickup truck displaying a temporary paper license plate parked in the area of Washington Boulevard and Alameda Street. The officers also observed a pedestrian standing in the roadway adjacent to the driverβs side door of the vehicle. As officers approached to investigate, they observed the driver, 35-year-old Marco Flores in possession of a handgun. When officers attempted to detain him, Flores fled in the vehicle at a high rate of speed. Officers initiated a vehicle pursuit, which continued into the Hollenbeck Area and ended when Flores crashed into a fence. Flores then exited his vehicle and fled on foot. During the ensuing foot pursuit, Flores produced a handgun and fired at pursuing officers, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS). During the incident, one officer was struck in the chest by gunfire. The round did not penetrate the officerβs ballistic vest, and the officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and later released. Flores was struck by gunfire, fell to the ground, and dropped his handgun. Officers took Flores into custody, secured the handgun, and requested a Rescue Ambulance (RA). Personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded and transported Flores to a local hospital, where he was treated for multiple gunshot wounds. While there, Flores underwent surgery and is currently listed in critical but stable condition. He is expected to survive. No additional officers or community members were injured during the incident. The investigation determined Flores was driving a reported stolen vehicle. The firearm was recovered at the scene and booked as evidence. Flores is charged with four felony counts of attempted murder, six felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm upon a peace officer, three felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, one felony count of fleeing a pursuing peace officerβs motor vehicle while driving recklessly and one felony count of possession of firearm by a felon with a prior. If convicted as charged, Flores faces multiple life sentences in state prison.

San Leandro, California β On May 7, 2026, just after 8 p.m., San Leandro Police dispatch ...received a call on a non-emergency line from an out-of-state caller. The caller identified his friend as 39-year-old David McAlpin and said his attempts to call him back went straight to voicemail. San Leandro Police officers responded to McAlpin's Santiago Road residence to conduct a welfare check and made contact with his family. His family was unaware of the concerns relayed to dispatch by his friend in Texas and did not know McAlpin's whereabouts. McAlpin's family made contact with him but were unsuccessful in convincing him to return home. Ultimately, officer Qiu was able to speak with McAlpin by phone. During a lengthy conversation, officer Qiu was able to convince McAlpin to share his location so officers could meet with him in person. Officer Qiu informed McAlpin that he and additional officers would respond to his location at the San Leandro Marina. Officers had received information that McAlpin owned a firearm, but he denied being armed. Officer Qiu spoke with McAlpin for approximately ten minutes. As officer Qiu began to open the driver's door, McAlpin reached for an object. Officer Caleb Schwitters, who was positioned near the windshield, ordered McAlpin to stop reaching. McAlpin then produced a firearm, and officers Schwitters, Navarro, and Martinez discharged their service weapons. All three officers who discharged their service weapons were recording with their body-worn cameras. None of the officers' cameras clearly captured McAlpin as he produced the firearm. Approximately 50 seconds after officers discharged their service weapons, another gunshot is heard. Investigators later determined the shot was fired by McAlpin. Following the officer-involved shooting, McAlpin remained armed and unresponsive to commands. Officers were unable to safely approach him until additional resources arrived. Emergency medical personnel treated McAlpin at the scene, but he was pronounced dead. Investigators recovered a firearm from the vehicle.

Wilmington, Delaware β On June 24, 2026, shortly after 11 p.m., Wilmington Police Officers were patrolling ...near the intersection of 24th and Jessup streets when they encountered a large gathering of people. According to investigators, officers believed they saw 19-year-old Kadir Skinner with a handgun and moved toward him, prompting him to run from the area. Body-camera footage released weeks later shows an officer leaving his patrol vehicle and sprinting after Skinner along a sidewalk. The recording begins without audio because of the camera's buffering feature, but sound activates moments before the officer fires several shots during the brief foot pursuit. Within seconds, Skinner falls to the ground as officers continue giving commands to drop a weapon while securing the scene.
As officers approached the wounded teenager, Skinner repeatedly insisted he was unarmed and soon complained that he could not breathe. The officer who fired the shots told arriving officers that an object had been discarded, leading another officer to search the nearby grass before reporting that a firearm had been recovered. While officers handcuffed Skinner and requested emergency medical assistance, neighbors and family members rushed toward the scene, shouting for police to help him and questioning the officers' actions. The emotional confrontation intensified as bystanders were pushed back and officers worked to control the growing crowd before Skinner was eventually carried to a police cruiser and transported to Wilmington Hospital.
Skinner later died from his injuries, and the shooting quickly became the focus of multiple investigations and public scrutiny. After the Delaware Department of Justice released body-camera footage from three responding officers, attorneys representing Skinner's family argued the videos conflict with the official account that he posed an immediate threat before the shooting, maintaining that the recordings do not clearly show him pointing a firearm at anyone. The family has since filed a $25 million claim against the City of Wilmington and is seeking criminal charges against the officer involved. Meanwhile, state officials say both the independent Department of Justice review and the Wilmington Police Department's internal investigation remain active, with a comprehensive report and the identities of the officers expected to be released after the investigations are completed.

Denver, Colorado β On June 27, 2026, Denver Police received multiple 911 calls reporting that 26-year-old ...Wilson Guerra Bravo was repeatedly returning to a residence near East 51st Avenue and Washington Street, knocking on doors, looking through windows, and allegedly harassing the people living there. Investigators later learned Bravo knew a former resident of the home and had helped that person move out, but the current occupants no longer wanted him at the property. Police had previously responded to the address several times, and during one earlier contact officers warned Bravo not to return. Despite that warning, he continued coming back, prompting a total of seven calls to police before the final incident. Shortly before noon on July 5, another 911 call reported Bravo was back at the residence. When officers arrived, they located a man matching the caller's description and noticed he was carrying a large kitchen knife. As officers attempted to contact him, Bravo walked away and then ran, leading officers on a foot pursuit. According to police, an officer briefly lost sight of him behind a building before Bravo allegedly lunged at the officer with the knife. The officer continued chasing him while repeatedly ordering him to drop the weapon and warning that he would be shot if he did not comply.
The confrontation came to a head at the intersection of East 50th Avenue and Washington Street. Police said Bravo suddenly turned and charged toward the pursuing officer while still holding the knife. After issuing several final commands to drop the weapon, the officer fired six shots. Bravo fell to the ground, and responding officers quickly moved in, recovered a 10-inch kitchen knife, handcuffed him, and began providing first aid until paramedics arrived. He was transported to Denver Health Medical Center with gunshot wounds. Following the shooting, investigators announced that Bravo faces a charge of attempted homicide for allegedly attacking the officer. The officer involved, who joined the Denver Police Department in 2024 and had no previous officer-involved shootings, was placed on a non-line administrative assignment while the incident is investigated. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Colorado State Patrol, Denver Police Department's homicide unit, the Denver District Attorney's Office, and the Office of the Independent Monitor are all reviewing the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey β On March 16, 2026, shortly after 2 a.m., four Lacey Township ...Police Officers were dispatched to a residence on Hemlock Drive, near the intersection of Birch Road, in the Lanoka Harbor section of Lacey. The officers were dispatched in response to a 911 call from 55-year-old Susanne Clarke in which she reported suffering from a suspected heart attack. Upon arrival at the residence, the officers encountered Clarke, who was inside of the residence and communicating from a window. Officers asked Clarke to come to the front door to speak with them. Clarke told the officers to leave her alone, and she did not come to the front door to speak with them. The officers remained on scene and continued to tell Clarke that they needed to speak with her to ensure her well-being. EMS personnel also arrived on scene. Officers intermittently heard Clarke shouting at them to leave and observed her moving within the residence and lying on the floor. After the officers had been on scene for approximately 30 minutes, Officer Dallas Gant looked through the homeβs rear glass sliding door and stated that he observed a dog with a knife wound. Officers then attempted to enter the home by, among other things, kicking the front door. After this attempt was unsuccessful, Officer Gant began to enter the home through a side window. He immediately withdrew from the window after he observed Clarke enter the room holding a knife. Clarke then exited the residence through the rear glass sliding door with a knife in her hand and advanced toward multiple officers. Officer Gant and another officer ordered her to drop the knife. Officer Gant fired his service weapon multiple times, striking Clarke. Medical aid was rendered. Clarke was pronounced deceased on the scene at 3:24 a.m. A knife was recovered. Clarke's official obituary released by Rezem Funeral Home clarifies that she is survived by her dogs, AJ and Sammy, confirming the pets survived the ordeal.

Palm Coast, Florida β On Saturday, July 11, 2026, shortly before 5 p.m., Flagler County Deputies ...responded to a residence in Palm Coast for a report of a verbal argument. While in the driveway, a man told deputies that he and his girlfriend were involved in an argument after he decided to pack his clothes and move out. According to the victim, he stepped into the bedroom closet to gather his things when 34-year-old Sofiya Zvarych, of Palm Coast, pushed him then briefly blocked him from leaving the closet before he slid past her and walked out to his truck. When a deputy asked Zvarych what had happened, she stated that she did not know why deputies were there, refused to provide her identification, and said she would only speak with a female deputy before slamming the door shut. A second deputy contacted Zvarych to get her account of the incident, but she was belligerent, and, after being told she was under arrest for domestic battery and false imprisonment, Zvarych became physically aggressive, actively resisting arrest and kicking one deputy in the thigh. Once in the back seat of the patrol car, Zvarych slipped out of her handcuffs. When deputies had her step out to secure them, she resisted and grabbed another deputy by the hand. Deputies then subdued her, handcuffed her again, and placed her back in the patrol car where she became increasingly belligerent, cursing at deputies and calling them names. Zvarych remained combative on the way to the jail. Deputies arrested Zvarych for domestic battery, false imprisonment, resisting an officer with violence, and battery on a law enforcement officer. She was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where she was later released on an $8,000 bond.

Foot Chase Ends When Suspect Points Gun at Austin Officers

Austin, Texas β On Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 8:13 a.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded ...to multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting that a White male on an electric scooter was chasing and threatening runners with a handgun in the area of West 5th Street and North Lamar Boulevard. Witnesses reported that the incident began after a runner told the man to slow down while riding on the sidewalk. According to witnesses, the suspect became involved in a verbal altercation where he used slurs addressed to the running group. The suspect proceeded to strike a female victim, which escalated into a brief physical altercation. The suspect subsequently produced a handgun, pointed it at multiple people, and threatened to shoot them before fleeing the area on the scooter. Officers arrived on the scene within two minutes at 8:15 a.m. and began searching for the suspect. Throughout the morning, officers gathered witness statements, reviewed surveillance video, and developed a description of the suspect. At 10:23 a.m., APD checked the area of 1100 West Cesar Chavez Street and found a scooter they believed belong to the suspect.
They continued to check the area for him. At 11:07 a.m., officers located an individual matching the suspect's description near the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail in the area of B.R. Reynolds Drive and West Cesar Chavez Street. Officers observed the individual, later identified as 29-year-old Emmanuel Diaz, get on the scooter and start to drive away. Officers gave him commands to stop. Diaz abandoned the scooter and fled on foot. Officers pursued him for a short distance while giving multiple commands for him to stop. During the pursuit, officers observed Diaz was armed with a handgun and ordered him to drop the weapon. Diaz refused to comply, continued fleeing, and did not drop the firearm. As officers closed the distance, Diaz fell to the ground and pointed his firearm at officers. At 11:08 a.m., Officer Collins and Officer Johns discharged their firearms, striking Diaz. Officers took Diaz into custody and began providing life-saving measures until Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) arrived. Despite those efforts, Diaz was pronounced deceased at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident, and there are no reported injuries to members of the public.

Phoenix, Arizona β On June 26, 2026, just after 11 p.m., Phoenix Police Officers were called ...to the area of 35th Avenue and Greenway Road for a domestic disturbance. The 911 caller stated that at least two people in the home were in an altercation, one of whom was armed with a knife and attempting to stab the other. When officers arrived, they approached the front of the home, where they began speaking with a woman. While talking with her, the suspect ran out from the front of the house holding a knife. He began chasing another man who had been standing in the homeβs driveway. This is when the officer-involved shooting occurred and the suspect was struck by gunfire. The suspect dropped the knife and fell to the ground, at which point officers took him into custody and began providing first aid. Phoenix Fire Department personnel transported the man to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Baltimore, Maryland β On July 5, 2026, at approximately 1:30 a.m., the Baltimore Police Department's Aviation ...Unit (βFoxtrot") located a vehicle reported stolen in a carjacking in Baltimore County and alerted officers with the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) of the location of the vehicle. Foxtrot followed the vehicle with marked units on the ground close by. Multiple officers stopped the vehicle in the 3300 block of Clifton Avenue. Officers issued multiple commands to the driver to exit the vehicle. The driver refused officersβ commands and locked himself inside. An officer was preparing to break the car window when another saw a gun and called it out, at which time officers discharged their service weapons, striking the driver. Officers rendered medical aid until emergency medical services took over care. The driver was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. No officers were injured. A BB gun was recovered from the vehicle. The decedent was identified as 42-year-old Maurice Daniels of Millersville, Maryland.

Canton, Ohio β On July 7, 2026, at approximately 3:21 p.m., Ohio State Troopers were told ...to be on the lookout for a gray Kia Telluride, driven by 39-year-old Julius Edwards, after the vehicle fled from Canton police officers and United States Marshals. Edwards was wanted in connection to an attempted murder in Canton on Tuesday. After the vehicle was identified through Flock cameras, troopers located Edwardsβ vehicle around 7:27 p.m. on Darrow Road in Hudson. Troopers activated their emergency overhead lights, but the Kia failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. Shortly thereafter, while fleeing, Edwards failed to stop at a red light at Terex Road, causing a serious-injury crash with multiple victims. Following the crash, Edwards exited his vehicle and fled the area on foot. At that time, Edwards fired at the pursuing trooper, and an officer-involved shooting occurred, with the trooper returning fire. Edwards then fled into nearby woods. Law enforcement set up a perimeter in the immediate vicinity in an attempt to locate Edwards. Just before 8:25 p.m., troopers observed Edwards driving a stolen silver Chrysler Town & Country that he had carjacked. Troopers activated their emergency overhead lights, but the Chrysler failed to stop and another pursuit ensued. Following a pursuit involving multiple agencies that lasted approximately 10 minutes, Edwards struck a Summit Metro Parks cruiser, which resulted in a rollover crash near Saybrooke Boulevard and Bunker Lane. Edwards exited the vehicle, attempted to flee, but was taken into custody by Stow Police Department officers and Patrol troopers without further incident. The Summit Metro Parks officer sustained minor injuries from the crash, no other law enforcement officers reported injuries. According to Canton Municipal Court online records, Julius Edwards is facing charges for attempted murder, felonious assault and domestic violence in connection with a stabbing that took place in Canton on Tuesday.

Queen Creek, Arizona β On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, just before 2 p.m., Queen Creek Police ...Officers were notified of a man, later identified as Bradley. Family members reported receiving text messages from him and advised that he had access to multiple firearms and vehicles. Officers initially responded to Bradleyβs residence to attempt contact and de-escalation. He was not located at his home; officers made contact with him via phone and confirmed he had a gun. He refused to share his location. Officers continued efforts to locate him while maintaining phone and text communication. Just after 3 p.m., officers located Bradleyβs vehicle parked in the northwest portion of a church parking lot near Chandler Heights and 204th Street. Officers observed him while he remained in his vehicle. When Bradley exited his vehicle and attempted to enter the church building, officers determined it was necessary to make contact with him as he stated he had a gun and there were bystanders on the east side of the church. During the interaction, Bradley again confirmed he was carrying a gun. Officers issued multiple verbal commands instructing him not to move and not to reach for the weapon. He did not comply and made motions towards the gun in his waistband. A single-round, less-lethal option was deployed and was ineffective. He did not comply and continued moving in the direction of bystanders. This is when the officer involved shooting occurred. After discharging their weapons, officers observed him continue to move and appeared to reach for his gun again, failing to comply with officersβ commands. Officers discharged their weapons again. Due to the fact he was armed, a Taser was deployed to safely take him into custody, remove the gun from his waistband, and then provide life-saving efforts. Bradley was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:54 p.m. No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident.

Los Angeles, California β On May 23, 2026, at around 8:50 p.m., a 77th patrol unit ...observed a Tesla driving recklessly as it traveled northbound on Figueroa at 61st Street. The officer attempted to stop the Tesla, but the driver failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated. Due to the speed of the Tesla, officers lost sight of the vehicle and terminated the one-minute pursuit. As officers were monitoring the area, it appeared the Tesla crashed into a bicyclist. Officers stopped to render aid, but the cyclist was uncooperative and left the area. Another 77th patrol unit that was responding eastbound on Slauson Avenue to the area of pursuit, observed the Tesla speeding westbound on Slauson Avenue near Vermont Avenue pass them. Officers negotiated a U-turn and observed the Tesla crash into a Mercedes Benz at Slauson Avenue and Denker Avenue. The driver of the Tesla exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers were able to detain and arrest the driver without incident. The driver, identified as 23-year-old Tamajai Dampeer was arrested for Section 2800.3 βFelony Evading-Causing Death to Another Personβ of the California Vehicle Code. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and rendered aid but were unable to revive the driver of the Mercedes. The Mayorβs Crisis Response Team and the LAPDβs Family Liaison Unit responded and provided support.
