Suspect Shot After Slamming BMW Into Police Cruisers And Aiming Gun

Los Angeles, California — On April 8, 2026, around 9:40 a.m., Los Angeles Police Officers were ...patrolling in the area of Central Avenue and Towne Avenue when they observed a newer model BMW wanted for a felony crime. The officers followed the vehicle onto the 5 Freeway while requesting additional units. When the BMW began to accelerate away in an apparent attempt to evade, the officers initiated a vehicle pursuit. Approximately one minute later, the BMW turned onto the Olympic Boulevard exit. While on the off-ramp, the driver abruptly conducted a U-turn and accelerated against traffic, colliding head-on with oncoming police vehicles. After the BMW came to a stop, the driver, later identified as 30-year-old Jesus Ernesto Jaime, exited from the driver’s seat and stood behind his vehicle. Responding officers issued verbal commands for Jaime to surrender. Jaime refused to comply and instead removed a semi-automatic handgun from his waistband and pointed it at an officer, resulting in an officer-involved shooting. Jaime was struck by gunfire and fell to the ground. Jaime was taken into custody without further incident and moved to awaiting Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics, who declared him deceased at scene. Representatives from the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner responded to the scene and positively identified Jaime. An additional passenger inside the BMW complied with officers’ commands to surrender and was taken into custody without incident. Two officers were transported to a nearby hospital, where they were treated and released for injuries sustained from the traffic collision. A 9mm semi-automatic Glock handgun, loaded with 17 live rounds, was recovered from the scene. Additionally, a loaded .357 Magnum Astra revolver was recovered from inside the BMW. No other community members were injured during this incident.

Baltimore, Maryland — On Thursday, May 14, 2026, at approximately 9:12 a.m., officers with the Baltimore ...Police Department (BPD) received a 911 call for an armed individual, later identified as 46-year-old Louis Jackson in the 800 block of Caton Avenue. Officer Sharod Watson driving in the area encountered Jackson on foot in the 3300 block of Wilkens Avenue, and notified dispatch that the man fired a shot at his patrol car. Officer Watson exited his cruiser and issued commands. Jackson ignored the commands and continued firing at officers. Officer Watson and Officer Mark Rankine discharged their firearms, striking Jackson. Officers rendered aid until emergency medical services assumed care. Jackson was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. A handgun was recovered at the scene near Jackson. No officers were injured during the incident.

Richmond, Virginia — On May 7, 2026, around 6:47 p.m., a man called 911 after hearing ...a gunshot inside an apartment where 31-year-old Jazmin Wooten-Mitchell was located. During the call, people in the background could reportedly be heard trying to get her to open the door, while the caller told dispatchers they believed she may have shot and that they could not get inside the apartment. As officers were responding, a second 911 call came in reporting that a woman was outside the apartment building firing a gun. When officers arrived at the complex a few minutes later, witnesses directed them toward an upstairs area while multiple residents were seen running through the property. Police body camera footage shows officers climbing the stairwell after hearing several more gunshots. Investigators said Wooten-Mitchell allegedly fired in the direction of an apartment and toward the stairwell area as officers approached. One officer then opened fire, striking her. Officers later recovered a handgun near her body and attempted medical aid, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Wooten-Mitchell was the mother of two kids, a 6-month-old boy and a 10-year-old girl. Her daughter’s 11th birthday was this past week. She lost the father of one of her children the day before the shooting.

Jacksonville, Florida — On May 4, 2026, in the very late evening, 33-year-old Brandon Kaphers kicked ...in the front door of a townhome on Rigel Road; the homeowner reported Kaphers was armed with a weapon when they called 911. Minutes later, Kaphers kicked in the front door of another townhome, went upstairs, and pointed a gun at a resident in her bedroom. The victim then called 911. Immediately after, Kaphers kicked in the front door of a third and fourth townhome on Rigel Road. Officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to Rigel Road for the multiple armed burglaries. Multiple officers arrived and gathered near their cars. Kaphers appeared between two parked vehicles and walked towards the officers, outstretching his arm and pointing his gun at the officers twice. Officers yelled at Kaphers to drop the gun, but he did not comply. Officers Comayagua, Vazquez, Palliant, and Schmidt fired shots. Kaphers fell to the ground, dropping his gun. Officers took Kaphers into custody and rendered emergency medical aid. Kaphers passed away at the hospital. Kaphers had a criminal history including Aggravated Assault with a Weapon, False Imprisonment of a Minor, and other charges.

East Lansing, Michigan — On April 15, 2026, a 911 call came from employees at a ...Marco’s Pizza restaurant after 21-year-old Isaiah Kirby allegedly entered the business acting as though he was a delivery driver. Workers said Kirby went behind the counter, opened a pizza box, and began eating food that did not belong to him. Employees repeatedly told him to leave, and one worker later said Kirby became confrontational and stood chest-to-chest with him before exiting the restaurant. Staff called 911 to report the disturbance because they feared the situation was escalating. While the employee was still speaking with dispatchers, the situation outside rapidly turned violent. Across the street, 63-year-old attorney Douglas Mielock had just left a barber shop and was getting into his vehicle when, according to family members and witnesses, Kirby attacked him without warning.
Witnesses reported seeing a struggle in the parking lot, and callers told 911 that a man armed with a knife was pacing around covered in blood after the stabbing.

Mielock was seen on the ground severely injured while people nearby attempted to help him. Officers responding to the original theft call were then updated that the incident had become a stabbing involving a suspect armed with a knife. Minutes later, police spotted Kirby running along Abbot Road while carrying what appeared to be the knife. Body camera and dash camera footage show officers pulling their patrol vehicles to a stop in the roadway as Kirby moved toward them. Officers shouted commands for him to get on the ground and drop the weapon. Within seconds, officers opened fire. Video released by the department shows three separate bursts of gunfire over roughly 20 seconds. Kirby fell to the ground after the initial shots but was still moving and holding the knife during parts of the encounter. Officers continued yelling commands before eventually approaching him with a shield, removing the knife, and attempting medical aid. Kirby was pronounced dead at the scene, while Mielock survived after emergency surgery and several days in intensive care.

Illinois State Troopers Open Fire After Suspect Pulls Gun During Struggle

Chicago, Illinois — On April 15, 2026, a woman riding in a vehicle on Interstate ...57 called police to report a domestic violence situation involving her boyfriend, identified as 24-year-old Jalen Carpenter. According to Illinois State Police, the woman told dispatchers that Carpenter had battered and threatened her while they were driving through Chicago. During the call, she remained on the phone with authorities and continuously updated officers on their location as the vehicle traveled off the interstate and into the city’s Woodlawn neighborhood. At one point, the woman reportedly told police she feared for her life because Carpenter was armed. The situation came to a stop in the 6500 block of South Champlain Avenue after the woman exited the vehicle and waited for responding troopers. When officers arrived, they approached Carpenter on the sidewalk and began questioning him about the argument. Body-camera footage shows Carpenter admitting that he and his girlfriend had been arguing, but he denied having a weapon when asked by a trooper. Officers then attempted to detain him after asking him to lift his shirt, leading to a physical struggle. During the confrontation, surveillance footage appears to show Carpenter pulling out a handgun as a shot is fired into the ground. Troopers then opened fire, striking Carpenter multiple times. Police said officers rendered aid before Carpenter was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators recovered a firearm from the scene, and the involved troopers have since been placed on administrative status while the Illinois State Police Division of Internal Investigation reviews the shooting. Carpenter’s family has continued to demand accountability and a full review of the evidence, with his father criticizing the level of force used and calling the incident devastating for their family.

Pasadena Officer Shot in Leg During Intense Shootout With Gunman

Pasadena, California — On March 2, 2026, around 7:30 p.m., the Pasadena Police Department received a ...report of a gunshot victim at the Sierra Madre Villa Metro Station. At approximately 7:35 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the scene and arrived, contacted the victim, and conducted an initial assessment. The victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound but conscious. The officer obtained important details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting and provided a description of the suspect. The victim described the suspect, wearing a white shirt and black shorts, and reported that the suspect had a distinct hairstyle quoted as two puff balls on the side of his head and the letter P tattooed on his face. The officer immediately broadcast the suspect description to the dispatcher. Paramedics arrived on scene, rendered medical aid, and transported the victim to a local hospital for further treatment. A second victim approached officers and said the first victim was shot while trying to stop the suspect from sexually assaulting her.

At approximately 7:34 p.m., in the 3300 block of East Foothill Boulevard, the suspect was captured on a witness's video recording committing a second sexual assault of the victim. The victim was able to resist and escape, and the suspect fled the area. At approximately 7:41 p.m., officers located an individual matching the suspect's description in the 600 block of Sierra Madre Villa Avenue. The officers initially observed the suspect carrying a backpack walking northbound and attempted to detain him. The suspect began running, and the officers initiated a foot pursuit. During the foot pursuit, officers issued multiple commands for the suspect to stop and drop the bag, but the suspect failed to comply and continued to evade the officers. Meanwhile, the partner officer approached the suspect, repeatedly ordering him to, "Drop the bag and let me see your hands." The suspect again refused to comply and continued to evade. During the foot pursuit, the suspect stopped, turned towards the first officer, produced a firearm, and fired multiple rounds at the officer, resulting in an exchange of gunfire that left both the officer and the suspect injured. Immediately, the second officer broadcast shots fired over the radio and fired his weapon.

He then approached the injured officer and suspect, giving verbal commands for the suspect to comply and show his hands. The fallen officer advised that he had been shot in the right leg and requested a tourniquet be applied. The assisting officer applied a tourniquet to the injured officer's right leg while continuing to monitor the suspect. Additional officers on scene working together attempted emergency medical aid for the critical injured suspect at the scene until paramedics from the Pasadena Fire Department arrived and assumed medical care. Despite these efforts, the suspect was later pronounced deceased at the scene. At the same time, officers quickly moved to assist their gravely injured colleague, lifting him and transporting him to a waiting ambulance for immediate medical care. The officer, later identified as Bryan Vasquez was transported for emergency medical treatment. A firearm was recovered next to the suspect at the scene of the shooting. The firearm was a Glock 19 stolen out of Los Angeles. The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Malcolm Buchanan, a Pasadena resident. Officer Vasquez, a five-year veteran of the department, underwent surgery following the shooting and was hospitalized in guarded condition, according to previous statements from Pasadena police. At the time of this incident, the suspect was on active parole for armed robbery.

Greensboro, North Carolina — On August 5, 2025, at approximately 4:06 p.m., Officer Wyatt of the ...Greensboro Police Department was flagged down by a resident in the 1600 block of Marion Street in reference to a trespasser call. The resident directed the officer toward the man, identified as 48-year-old Said Ezzine, who was suspected of trespassing on a nearby property. The officer was familiar with Ezzine due to previous encounters with him. His arrest history included charges of assault on officers. Officer Wyatt began talking with Ezzine in an attempt to investigate further. The officer had reasonable suspicion to detain Ezzine. Officer Wyatt issued repeated commands for him to stop, and Ezzine refused to comply with those lawful commands. The officer then drew his department-issued Taser but did not discharge it and returned it to its holster while Ezzine continued to walk away from him. During the interaction, Ezzine refused to comply with repeated commands from the officer. As the officer attempted to detain him, Ezzine continued to walk toward and onto the property where he had been trespassing. Ezzine walked toward a shed on the property, where he retrieved a metal steering wheel lock and began advancing toward the officer. During this time, the officer had given repeated commands for Ezzine to drop the weapon. Ezzine then returned to the shed, where he retrieved a saw blade and again advanced toward the officer while brandishing it. He then threw the blade down on the ground. Ezzine then picked up a large pipe wrench and advanced toward the officer. The officer discharged his firearm, striking Ezzine. Ezzine got up and ran behind the residence. Officer Wyatt ran around the front of the home, then returned to the backyard where he located Ezzine. The officer immediately requested EMS as another officer arrived on scene to assist. Despite life-saving efforts, Ezzine died at the scene. On May 4, 2026, the Greensboro Police Department was notified of the Guilford County District Attorney's decision, which determined that the officer's actions were justified under North Carolina law.

San Diego Woman Shot After Charging at Man With a Pen

San Diego, California — On April 15, 2026, just after 5:00 p.m., San Diego Police dispatch ...received a call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon in progress near 16th street and Island Avenue. Officer Grijalva arrived on scene and observed a woman, later identified as 32-year-old Denise Christy Guzman, approaching city workers while holding the object in her hand. Officer Grijalva repeatedly gave commands for her to "Drop the pick." Guzman then ran toward a man in the street while holding the object in her right hand. Officer Grijalva gave additional commands for her to "Drop The Pick." as Guzman charged at the potential victim, Officer Grijalva discharged his service weapon. When Officer Grijalva discharged his service weapon, Guzman was struck twice in the chest but showed no immediate reaction. After Officer Grijalva discharged his service weapon, additional Officers arrived on scene. Officer Grijalva observed that Guzman was holding a red pen and gave commands for her to drop it. Guzman turned her attention toward Officer Grijalva and began advancing toward him, holding the pen in a threatening manner. A sergeant, who observed Guzman advancing toward Officer Grijalva, drove his patrol vehicle toward Guzman in an attempt to stop her. As the sergeant drove toward her, Guzman redirected her attention away from Officer Grijalva. Officer Grijalva transitioned from his service weapon to his taser. Multiple Officers deployed their tasers and Guzman fell to the ground. After additional taser deployments, Guzman was taken into custody. Officers rendered medical aid until the arrival of San Diego Fire-Rescue Personnel. Guzman was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Guzman was holding a pen. Guzman has been criminally charged by the district attorney's office with Assault With a Deadly Weapon, Exhibiting a Weapon to Law Enforcement and Resisting Arrest. No Officers were injured in this incident.

Joiner, Arkansas — On May 2, 2026, an Arkansas State Trooper spotted a Dodge Charger speeding ...along Highway 118 near the small town of Joiner in Mississippi County. Investigators said the vehicle was traveling around 80 mph in a 55 mph zone, prompting the trooper to attempt a routine traffic stop. Instead of pulling over, the driver, later identified as 23-year-old Thalia Jones, allegedly accelerated and continued driving, leading officers on a pursuit through the rural area. Police said the chase escalated when Jones reportedly crossed into oncoming traffic while trying to avoid being stopped. Troopers then decided to use a PIT maneuver, a tactic designed to force a fleeing vehicle to spin out and come to a stop. The maneuver caused the Charger to lose control, strike objects near the roadside and flip upside down in a field. Moments later, officers realized a 3-year-old child was inside the car when the toddler emerged from the wreckage and ran toward troopers as they secured the scene. Troopers said the child was uninjured. He was evaluated by emergency responders alongside his mother and was later released to another adult at the scene. The trooper was upset when he realized there was a child in the car and scolded the mother for putting his life in danger. Jones was charged with speeding, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, child endangerment and unauthorized use of another person’s vehicle to commit a crime. Authorities said the car belonged to Jones’ boyfriend, and the incident was reported to the Child Abuse Hotline.

Florida Man Jumps Deputy And Attacks Him With Knife

Marion County, Florida — On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Deputy Robert Fitch ...with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) responded to the area of 11775 NW 10th Place in Dunnellon in reference to a suspicious person. As Deputy Fitch exited his vehicle, he was immediately ambushed by 38-year-old Heriberto Medina Marquez, causing him to fall to the ground. Medina Marquez then climbed on top of Deputy Fitch and repeatedly stabbed him in the chest before fleeing into a nearby wooded area. As Deputy Montalvo arrived on scene, Medina Marquez emerged from the woods, and the deputies were able to take him into custody without further incident. After being placed in a patrol vehicle, Medina Marquez told deputies, “I should have killed you, you know that right.” Deputy Fitch sustained minor injuries during the attack, his bulletproof vest saved his life. Following interviews and the collection of evidence, MCSO Major Crimes detectives determined that Medina Marquez intentionally attempted to take the life of Deputy Fitch. Medina Marquez was transported to the Marion County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. Heriberto Medina Marquez is charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, giving a false name to law enforcement and resisting without violence, according to an arrest affidavit from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

High Speed Chase Of Stolen Vehicle Ends In Rollover Crash

Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin — On Friday, May 8, 2026, at approximately 1:08 p.m. the ...Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office received an alert of a stolen vehicle out of Illinois traveling northbound on Interstate 41 from County Road Y. Further information was gathered that the vehicle was involved in two different pursuits in the past week in Illinois, but eluded officers each time. A short time later a deputy with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle on Interstate 4 and conducted a high-risk traffic stop. The vehicle initially pulled over and stopped, but a short time the suspect vehicle fled. A pursuit ensued northbound on Interstate 41 into Winnebago County. The suspect vehicle failed to obey the deputies’ emergency lights and sirens. The suspect vehicle increased its speed in attempt to evade apprehension. As the pursuit continued into Winnebago County the suspect vehicle continued to exhibit reckless behavior by passing other vehicles on the interstate, including passing on the shoulder, weaving between vehicles, and all at a high rate of speed. The pursuit continued until the suspect vehicle entered a field near County Road Z and Clay Rd in Winnebago County. As a Sergeant with the Sheriff’s Office was moving in to perform a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT Maneuver), contact was made with the suspect vehicle as the suspect had placed his vehicle in reverse and rammed into the front of the squad.

The suspect vehicle then attempted to leave the field by traveling through a ditch and back up onto Clay Road where another Sheriff’s Office squad ended the pursuit by intentionally striking the suspect, pushing the vehicle off the road and back into the ditch. The suspect vehicle rolled over in the ditch, came to rest upright, and was ultimately disabled effectively ending the pursuit. Two occupants exited the vehicle and were taken into custody. The suspect vehicle started on fire and required a fire department respond to extinguish the fire. Both occupants were evaluated by medical personnel on scene. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 23-year-old Antonie Wells from Des Plaines, Illinois. Wells was taken to the Fond du Lac County Jail on charges of Fleeing/Eluding Officer, two counts of 1st Degree Reckless Endangering Safety, Resisting/Obstructing Officer, and Delivering Illegal Articles by Inmate (Ecstasy pills). Wells’s criminal history through Illinois was flagged as armed and dangerous with previous weapons offenses, dangerous drug offenses, and criminal damage to property. The passenger of the vehicle was identified as 23-year-old Crystal Olcikas from Franklin Park, Illinois. Olcikas was taken to the Fond du Lac County Jail on the charges of Fleeing/Eluding-Party to a Crime, 1st Degree Reckless Endangering Safety-Party to a Crime. Possession of THC, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Resisting and Obstructing an Officer.
